Efficient management team

Management team is a very special team. The problems to solve are challenging, but the management team is not anyone’s primary work team. Can we increase the mutual understanding of the management team and thereby make its actions more efficient and operational?

Efficient management team

Research shows that effective operation of the management team deals with for instance ability to argue in a constructive way, psychological security, acknowledgement of mistakes and making efforts towards common objectives.

Management team differs from the other teams in the organisation: the management team is timewise a secondary team to its members. Management team also deals with the most difficult issues in the organisation and makes critical decisions. For these to succeed, the team needs to be able to deal with challenging questions and critically evaluate the choices that have been made. As the story unfolds, concrete situations help a facilitated discussion on team members’ readiness and strengths in different kinds of situations.

The background story of the simulation takes your management team to solve complex business cases in order to evaluate how your management team functions and how its’ members operate. Your team will solve problems encountered in your imaginary side business. You will end up tolerating mistakes, communicating with your personnel, and dealing with problems in the organisation. The exercise consists of ten situations. In each situation, you need to solve who in your team would be the best person to solve the case at hand. After each situation, there will be a facilitated discussion where the choices are explained and others’ views are heard.

Now somebody needs to listen, so that the person gets the feeling that they are heard and you can enter into a constructive discussion. Who can listen without shooting down the opinions?

The person responsible does not seem to understand the situation, although you have tried to discreetly bring it to their attention. For whom is it most natural to deal with problems and bring them to the table?

For whom in your team it is easy to tell about failures and other difficult issues?
